Project Google Glass - Will It Change The Way We Hurt Ourselves?
For those who missed the update, Google has announced that they are officially working on a new product that is under development under the code name "Project Glass". Essentially, it is a pair of specialized glasses that you can use to access various forms of social media, as well as, various apps, and widgets that tell you things like the time of day, the weather, and weather or not the subway has been shut down. It looks very interesting...and also rather dangerous. If you have ever walked into someone, or into traffic while texting you can understand what I am talking about. I think the idea overall looks amazing. Its just figuring out a responsible way to use the product that is the question.
One of the ways that we could learn to use this kind of product safely would be to learn how to develop our peripheral vision. You can do this by pointing your index fingers at each other, and look at the space in between them. As you bring your fingers closer together, you will see a "floating finger". This is a special way of using your eyes that is mostly used in photoreading (a special reading technique that allows you to mentally "photograph" pages of a book). In either case this method of "looking through an object" also helps to develop your peripheral vision which would be useful if these Google glasses were to be developed.
You can check out the video below to get an idea of what the glasses would be able to do:
And just for fun hear is a parody of the Google glasses that kind of illustrates what many fear may happen if these Google glasses are created.
